3 Digit Meeting News

3 Digit Meetings from Coast to Coast!!!

There has been a lot of activity within our state branches so far this year. I have received reports from many states about the 3 digit meetings that they have been holding. Some breif reports are listed below.

Linda Rumney, National Membership Chair

Tennessee held a 3 digit meeting in Maryville TN, Friday night, June 18, 2010. 36 postmaster were present to network and learn more about the PRU scorecard, BMA Scorecard, and brain storm solutions for current problems within their District. Great tuneout, great food, and great fellowship!

KY had a wonderful 3 digit meeting. It was well attended. The MPOO came and shared current info and insight as to what was going on with consolidating of local offices. We had excellent training ( thanks Shelly Souders) and everyone picked up ideas on how to run their offices more efficiently. The new accident reporting system was a hot topic. I am so glad I have before hand info!! We truly appreciate Teena Hudson and Bobbye Stokes for opening up their home for the meeting and having an excellent cook out afterward. It was relaxing, fun and informative. I can't wait for the next one.!!!

The West Virginia branch held a meeting in Beckley, West Virginia on May 18th. A total of 32 Postmasters, OICs and PMRs attended. Sharon Conner organized this meeting and invited that area's acting MPOO. The meeting was held in a restaurant that offers a free meeting room. The MPOO spoke to the group and Sharon brought an assortment of training materials and tips to help Postmasters run their offices more efficiently. A question and answer session was held as well as a general rap session.

The West Virginia branch held a 3 digit meeting Thursday April 29th with between 55 and 60 people in attendance! The meeting was held in an area restaurant that has a free meeting room. Our new Acting District Manager and MPOOs from the two surrounding areas were invited. I also had someone from the OIG speak to us. I talked to the group about some of the things that the LEAGUE is doing for them and stressed the educational aspects of belonging. The room was packed and the meeting didn't cost anything since those who chose to eat came early and dinner was "on your own". We had several Postmasters from Virginia with us and some drove nearly two hours to be there.

Arkansas has been having some very productive meetings. Tuesday night, April 20th they had a 718 and 719 3 digit meeting. Eighteen Postmasters attended. They used the following for their agenda.

• National Reassignment Process - what, who, how and why.
• NPA - Mid-year meeting with your Boss.
• Five-day delivery. Fact or fiction

They have also had their MPOO at their meetings and have had someone from the plant come to talk to them about properly preparing their dispatch.

In West Virginia we had a meeting Tuesday night, April 20th with 58 Postmasters in attendance! We held the meeting in a steakhouse and our new Acting District Manager attended as well as the Senior MPOO. We had someone from the district there who talked about CFS and PARS and we also had someone talk to us about dispatching the mail correctly.
We had a question and answer session with the District Manager. He is new to our state so this gave everyone a great chance to get to know him. He is excited about the meeting we have scheduled for next week. The state president also addressed the group.

Missouri held the second of three meetings we have schedule between 3/28 and 4/13. This one was held Jefferson City Mo. Attendance was lower than hoped possibly due to the threat of thunder storms. We did have 17 people show with 5 of them being prospective new members. Our agenda included the report reduction information, the letter writing campaign and the DUR process. With information I have gathered from our National Board we had about a 45 minute discussion on the DUR matter. I feel that with the information we were able to provide the attendees left feeling better. All of the non members left with membership information. I feel with follow up we will sign 2 or 3 members from this group.
We had a great meeting in Trenton for today (4/8). About 18 members there. 4 new people attending their first League meeting. The manager of Safety came and spoke for about an hour and then had lunch. A lot Good information given and much interest in writing letters to congress and report reduction. We are trying to stay ahead on the reports but the district is starting to roll out replacement programs.

Sandy Stokes from Indiana reported on a meeting that they held last night. Last week at our meeting for the 474/478 we had 33. The meeting was hosted in the 478 Area this time. We have the fall meeting in 474 and the spring in 478. There were 2 new members signed too. President Gary Foard spoke on the upcoming state convention and theDUR process. National VP Debbie Egemo spoke on several issues mainly on the DUR process. This is a great concern for many Indiana Postmaster's at this time. I was very pleased at the high turnout due to the fact this is usually a lower turnout area. See attached picture of Indiana's meeting.

South Dakota had a great turnout for their 3 digit meetings.

Nebraska has been holding meetings that they have dubbed their "March Madness Mini Meetings". Nebraska is giving their members an opportunity to customize their meetings. In some meetings they vented/bonded by sharing common experiences and the coping methods utilized. They met in the traditional library and business conference rooms as well as around a dining room table and the back of the extension office.

Mark Strong had this to report. We have three three 3 Digit meetings set up for Oregon in May and three for Utah. We recently had one in Arizona and another one coming this weekend. Great time to sell the state convention and share information with your fellow Postmasters. There has been an increase in jobs being posted so keep checking that ecareer site.

Carla Zuhlsdorf from South Dakota sent this. Our SD Branch has had some mini-meetings also. The first one,SCF-572, was held with training and information concerning Revenue Protection by the Inspection Service. We had 9 persons attend. Another one,SCF-577, was concerning SOX/Finance and was well attended. We had one in SCF-573 that presented a financial/retirement seminar for both Civil Service and FERS members. Everyone seemed to be able to learn something from his presentation. 573 MPOO Paul Turnbull then discussed SOV, SOX, and various other Postmaster concerns. 575 Area Meeting was held in Kadoka the end of January with 17 in attendance. Larry Michels, A/POOM and Steven Carter, OIC/Pierre provided information on CFS issues, handling of loop mail, and on-line training issues. Reva Paulson, Western Area Finance, provided lots of information on SOX Compliance.

The NY Branch held two 3-digit meetings. President Mapa came to speak at both. Many of the attendees were Napus members and they were all impressed by the efforts of the New York branch.

Lori says that they had a very successful 3 digit meeting in the 496 area of the wonderful state of Michigan! We had 27 in attendence. Our POOM, Carole Singer spoke regarding current budget cuts and took many questions. Our state President, Doug Starry also spoke to us regarding the League's view on similar issues. Drew Merriner updated us regarding our State Convention in June. I shared my experiences at Forum and explained the position papers we took to the Hill. There were many new faces in the crowd! Hopefully, we have signed 3 more new members!!! We had a great dinner, many door prizes and great conversation! We hope to have another 3 digit meeting in August.

Steve LeNoir, President of the South Carolina branch says this. The South Carolina branch hosted 5 meetings across the state in the last 2 weeks. The 3 digit cord. decides what the program will be. The manager of finance spoke at the meeting in Santee. The dist. SOV cord. spoke in Summerville and the AMS manager addressed our Postmasters in Greenville. We have done these type meetings in March and September for a couple of years now.

Arkansas - The 723 meeting consisted of the MPOO from Area 5 coming and speaking to us about concerns of the AR District. I addressed the audience and spoke about the upcoming FORUM and the importance of going to speak with your congress person and senators.

Arkansas - The 724 meeting consisted of the MPOO from Area 5 coming and speaking to us about the concerns of the AR District. This is the first meeting that area has had in several years. Myself, the executive VP Stephanie Jett, and former VP Candy Denny gave the presentation on Form 50's.

The agenda the Alabama branch used at their 3 digit meetings included topics such as the March NPA Tip of the Month, FY/09 Recourse Process Training, FY 2009 Rating Recourse Process, EH&S - Accident Management, FY 2010 PFP Mid-Year Process, Recording Mid-Year Accomplishments and the State Convention April 16-18, 2010 Auburn, AL.

In the little county of Amador here in California, I have been holding 3 digit meetings. I invite both NAPUS and League PM's. This week I signed a former NAPUS branch president to the League!!! Other NAPUS members are taking notice of who is offering training to PM's.

PA is plannning a meeting in the western part of the safe in the next month. The PA convention is in the end of April and we have planned a 3 digit meeting training at the convention. We hope to make members all over the state more confident in holding their own 3 digit meetings through this training.

Phoenix....March 20 held in Globe and another in Gila Bend on Apr 10

Missouri has 5 meetings scheduled between March 30th and April 13. Included in this total are two scheduled on April 8th, AM in Trenton Mo. (all day arranged by members in the 644-646 MPOO area) and one in the evening in Joplin MO.

Indiana has 4 area meetings planned-we made it clear that no matter which area you are from to please attend. The meeting I am hosting next week has more than 20 RSVP's so far, which has been traditionally a low turnout area. DUR will be the hot topic at the meeting.

Texas had a 3 digit meeting on the 19th in the Fort Worth District and one was to be held in the Dallas District on the 20th.

A 3 digit meeting in Northern Michigan on April 2 - one last month in West Michigan

Three digit meeting in Fort Myers Florida on 3/25/2010

New Jersey had a meeting on the 31st of March.

Washington and Idaho are having their state convention in April and are planning a meeting in June.
