President's Message
February 2, 2007
Charles Mapa, President
Greetings Fellow Postmasters and LEAGUE Members
Dear Leaguers,
It is hard to believe that we are already into February; unfortunately, the fact that it is cold throughout most of our country does nothing to slow down time! It certainly has not slowed activity down at Postal Headquarters; I’ve been to numerous briefings there over the last few weeks to learn about some of the programs being pushed out that will impact all of you. There are a number of changes coming down the pike and we will get that information out to you.
One of the first changes that I’d like to share with you is happening right here at League Headquarters. When our League website was developed over 7 years ago, it was state-of-the-art. Technology has advanced tremendously since then. We have a commitment to stay up with the changes in technology, therefore, sometime in the next month, you will see a new face to the website. The changes will not be just skin deep; the things that we will be able do with the site will be greatly enhanced. You will see new links and the website itself will be much easier to navigate. Much time and effort have gone into the development of this site over the last 4 months. I hope that you are as excited as we are with the new changes!
Pay Talks
We hope to soon be involved in pay consultations with Postal Headquarters personnel soon. Of course, we are looking for a pay package equitable for all Postmasters, but we are also looking to improve the working conditions of our Postmasters.
Pay for Performance
Don’t for get to access the Performance Evaluation System (PES) soon. There you can access your End of Year Rating. Also, the process is in place there for you to access eRecourse. Though eRecourse you can ask to have the scores for your core requirements reviewed. The link for Erecourse can be found at the PES website.
PERF
League President Charley Mapa, as one of the Grantors for the Postal Employees Relief Fund (PERF) met this week with Postmaster General Jack Potter to receive a report from the Executive Board of the PERF committee. The biggest issue was that so many of the Hurricanes Rita and Katrina had still not been funded for their losses. We were reminded that PERF is not a first responder to an emergency as are the Red Cross and other such agencies, but the last responder, that is, once everyone else – Federal, state and local programs, and insurance companies – have paid out their obligations, then PERF steps in to help with more aid.
Next week, we will provide more information on some of the new programs that Postal Headquarters is pushing out.
Sincerely,
Charley Mapa
President
